Tanner Clay joined the Charleston Battery in Fall 2021 as an Account Executive and was promoted to Senior Account Executive 8 months later in December 2021. The Charleston Battery is the Lowcountry’s premier professional soccer team. Prior to the Battery Tanner worked in various sales roles, Branch Manager at Enterprise Holding’s for 5 years, and Inside sales team lead for local cyber security firm Help Systems (formally PhishLabs) for 1.5 years.

Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, and was very active in all sports as a child. Tanner found a passion for soccer at an early age…In 2011, Clay relocated to Charleston to attend the College of Charleston and accepted an athletics scholarship for the Division 1 soccer program. For the C of C Men’s Soccer Team (2011-15) – Appeared in 52 matches for Cougars, 5 career goals, and 7 assists, and helped captain the team his senior season. Played for Legendary Coach Ralph Lundy Sr. from 2011-2015. 

Tanner has a B.S. in Finance from the College of Charleston. In Tanner’s spare time he coaches a U13 boys team for Charleston United Soccer Club in West Ashley and holds a USSF D License. He enjoys taking weekend trips with his family, watching sports on television, volunteering in the community, and exploring Charleston for all its beauty. Tanner aspires someday to run his own company and continue to give back to kids all of the life lessons he learned from sports and business.

Tanner married his wonderful wife in 2018… Irene Villegas Diego… they have a beautiful baby boy… Diego Kai was born on June 13, 2019.
