The Lowcountry Digital Equity Coalition (LDEC), in partnership with Palmetto Goodwill, is kicking off a summer long drive to provide 2000 laptops to K-12 students in Title 1 schools in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester County by the start of the 2024-2025 School Year.
The goal of the project is to help achieve South Carolina’s Digital Equity Plan’s device availability goal that every resident of South Carolina can access a desktop or laptop computer at home or in an accessible location.
How you can help:
To help achieve this goal, LDEC is inviting tri-county businesses, governments, and other organizations to donate surplus laptops to the coalition between June 24-August 30th. Palmetto Goodwill will refurbish donated laptops and provide a new hard drive made possible by generous funding provided by Comcast.
Next steps:
Enter your organization’s intent to donate on the LDEC website “Laptop Donation Project” page. An LDEC representative will confirm receipt and make the arrangements for pick-up or drop-off of the donated laptops, whichever is preferable to your organization.
Note: Laptop distributions will be conducted via school district events only and announced via the LDEC LinkedIn page and website.
