Watch: Honors 2025 – Meet the Visionaries Shaping Our Region

On March 20, the Charleston Metro Chamber recognized the individuals and organizations making a lasting impact in our region at The Honors presented by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Each recipient took the stage to accept a 2025 Honors Award, highlighting the work that’s driving our community forward.

If you weren’t able to attend this year’s Honors ceremony, you missed an evening of celebration and inspiration—but you don’t have to miss the stories. Watch the videos below to see the impact these leaders and businesses are making.

John C. L. Darby, The Beach Company – Jospeh P. Riley Leadership Award

Named after one of the region’s most notable and popular leaders, the late father of Former Mayor Joe Riley, the Joseph P. Riley award was initiated in 1992 by the Charleston Metro Chamber. This prestigious award recognizes an outstanding leader who has, through a lifetime of leadership, committed to making the community a better place to live, work and do business. The recipients of this award are dedicated to serving and strengthening the Charleston community.

John Darby exemplifies the essence of this award through his remarkable leadership and contributions to the Charleston community. Under his guidance, The Beach Company has grown into a leading real estate firm, shaping commercial, residential and resort development across the Southeast. With over 700 employees operating in 27 cities, John’s vision has been instrumental in driving economic growth and innovation.

Beyond business, John is a steadfast advocate for philanthropy, embedding a culture of giving within The Beach Company. His generosity and commitment to community impact are reflected in his support for organizations such as MUSC Children’s Hospital, United Way, Emmanuel Nine Memorial and the Children’s Museum. In recognition of his philanthropic efforts, John and his family were honored with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award by the Lowcountry Association of Fundraising Professionals.

John’s leadership extends to numerous boards, having served on The Citadel Foundation, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce boards.
